Meditation Becoming Medication

Have you ever heard of Headspace?

It may sound familiar or even be apart of your daily routine. For those of you who don’t know, it is a meditation app (you can download this on your smartphone or tablet) and on its way to become prescription medication. Moving forward, this company has set goals to have their Headspace Health services become a prescription meditation.

One source says, “According to the most recent statistics from the National Institutes of Health, in 2012 about 8%, or 18 million U.S. adults, reported meditating. Headspace reports having 30 million users, up from 10 million a year ago.” This statistic alone proves where this company is headed in the near future. In addition, doctors are always looking for non-pharmacological approaches to pain management and Headspace just might be the answer.

When it comes to meditation, at Boost, we believe that you must find something that allows you to practice meditation on a consistent basis. A consistent consumption of meditation can benefit in many areas and Headspace statistics prove the areas of improvement among their users. For example, “use of the app improved the participants’ reporting of positive emotions and increased their social interactions.”

In todays world, it is obvious that electronic devices consume the lives of many. Instead of viewing this as a threat the curing mental instability, Headspace know this is an opportunity to effectively reach individuals who are “hard-to-reach”.
